Karen Walsh

Candidate for Murrumbidgee

As a resident of Canberra for over 20 years, Karen is a passionate advocate for her local community. She believes in standing up for the rights of all Canberrans so that they have the opportunity to develop their full potential and achieve their goals.

After completing high school, Karen came to Canberra to study International Relations and Commerce. She loved it here and, in 2007, Karen joined the Department of Finance and Deregulation. By 2010, she had joined the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, where she led Australian Government sustainable agriculture programs.

Karen is currently employed in the not-for-profit sector, working as the Stakeholder Engagement Manager with Landcare Australia. Growing up on her family’s farm, in Taralga, Karen had ingrained in her a commitment to environmental and agricultural sustainability. But building this dream is not just the job of governments – Karen knows that, across many areas of life, dedicated voluntary organisations play a vital role in our brighter future.

Amidst the hustle of her professional life, Karen finds her greatest joy in the company of her family, neighbours, and friends. It’s these personal connections that fuel Karen’s drive to make a difference in the wider community.

With a blend of rural common sense and global perspective, Karen is an authentic local candidate on the Canberra Liberals’ team, determined to bring about meaningful change for the better, for all of us.
