James Milligan MLA

Deputy Opposition Whip

Shadow Minister for Disability, Emergency Services, Police, Vocational Training and Skills, Sport and Recreation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs

Member for Yerrabi

James Milligan is a family man who grew up in country Victoria, where life centred around family, friends, and community. James moved to Wagga Wagga, where he met his now wife, Katrina, and subsequently relocated to Canberra with his family. With a background in Graphic Design, he established a successful publishing house. He and his family continued their commitment to supporting the community through participation in local council, and in community events.

James has a longstanding interest in politics and ascribes to the values established at the time of the Liberal Party’s foundation. Involved in the Party for over fifteen years, James was elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly as Member for Yerrabi in 2016 and is now in his second term.

Responsibility for a diverse range of shadow portfolios, coupled with a background in small business, has provided James with an opportunity to contribute to the development of sound policy, with insight as to how Liberal Party values apply to the aspirations of everyday people.

James sees the values of the Liberal Party as an enduring framework for a prosperous and stable society. Common sense, personal responsibility, belief in the individual, freedom of choice, freedom of speech, freedom of association, free enterprise, respect for religious belief and the importance of family within a strong community are at the heart of our way of life.

James believes that Liberal values do resonate with the beliefs of Canberrans. Men and women who aspire to a life of success through hard work and dedication, and a life lived without the unnecessary intrusion of fashionable causes and political interference.

A strong Liberal government, fairly applying its values to all citizens, will create a community that builds hope, delivers security and rewards effort.
